Hosts Rekaya Gibson and Angela Spears chat with Olympic triple jumper Keturah Orji about her career as an athlete. She gives us insight on training for the 2020 Olympics and possibly becoming the first American woman to win a medal in the triple jump. She also shares what inspired her to create the mentor group, Amara’s Pride.

About Keturah “KO” Orji

Olympic triple jumper Keturah “KO” Orji is a four-time USA champion and one of the most prominent young stars in track and field.  After finishing fourth at the 2016 Olympic Games at age 20, KO has an opportunity to become the first American woman to win a medal in the triple jump event at the 2020 Olympics.

KO is a 2018 graduate of the University of Georgia, where she won 8 NCAA titles (7 in the triple jump, 1 in the long jump), set two NCAA records, received the prestigious Bowerman Award (the highest honor in collegiate track and field), and earned recognition as the 2018 NCAA Woman of the Year, a distinction given to one graduating senior selected from all sports and divisions of college athletics.  Amidst all of these accolades, KO maintained a 3.97 GPA.

As a student-athlete, KO formed a mentorship program called Amara's Pride for eighth grade girls from low-income backgrounds, which she still runs.

KO now competes professionally as a triple jumper and long jumper for Atlanta Track Club while pursuing a graduate degree in Sports Management at the University of Georgia.
